Ma'Coco came from Bastrop and opened its doors on 5th & Comal in the middle of 2021! Fairly new to the Austin food game, but gaining popularity quickly as there is truly nothing in this space serving San Diego inspired Baja dishes!

MA'COCO

Started by a brother and sister duo wanting to showcase their family traditions + San Diego upbringing! The Equihuas siblings dreamt of opening a restaurant when they lived in California working for Google and NBC! They had their eyes set on small town Texas and landed in Bastrop in 2018 with the first Ma’Coco restaurant! After a few years of success in Bastrop, it was time to expand to Austin!

THE FOOD

This menu is off the charts amazing! The first word that comes to mind is…FRESH! The menu features Mexican classics with corn tortillas, California-style burritos (stuffed with French fries), enchiladas, and quesadillas, plus churro doughnuts, bunuelos and flan! If you take anything from this post, it's that you have to try the Carne Asada fries and Tuna Tostada! The fresh meat and fish will blow you away, but the sauces are the crowd pleaser!

SALUD

Fresh also translates to their amazing cocktails! A mainly tequila forward cocktail menu, but they do offer a good selection of beer, as well! You must order a handcrafted margarita…Pineapple, Cucumber or The Paloma! And a spiced rim to top it all off.

THE ATMOSPHERE

In true California fashion, beach vibes take over! From the pictures on the wall of palm trees and ocean waves to the rattan pendant lights to all the greenery and laid back seating, this spot looks like a chic burrito stop on the 101! A gorgeous blue is seen throughout the space in chairs, pillows, logos, plates and more! Sit inside or outside on their front patio with string lighting for a cute east side date night!
