MAIE DAY
Maie Day officially opened at the beginning of May at the South Congress Hotel - taking the place of Central Standard. Restaurant groups MaieB and New Waterloo (Sway, IL Brutto, La Condesa, etc. ) are excited to be partnering together again. MaieB founder Michael Fojtasek, the award-winning, James Beard-nominated chef behind Olamaie and Little Ola’s Biscuits will work as the restaurant’s executive chef so you know the food will be *chef’s kiss*!
THE SPACE
We know any extension of the South Congress Hotel is going to be absolutely stunning. Maie Day is no exception. The hanging fringe rainbow entrance, mixed with the Xavier Schipani murals gives a colorful, inviting vibe to this luxury “community chophouse”. The bar is a focal point as many guests tend to gather around it. The remaining decor is simple, elegant, and clean. The goal was to create a steakhouse that wasn’t “dated” - mission accomplished!
STEAK + MORE
Fojtasek and team pride themselves on their mission to source locally as much as possible, using Texas farmers, beef from Texas, and seasonal Gulf seafood. Find plenty of steaks, such as ribeyes, porterhouses, chicken fried steaks, pork chops, and grilled fish. With steak houses, you know the sides are a show stopper: baked potatoes, creamed greens, and even a blooming onion. If hearty meat isn’t your thing, there’s a raw bar with oysters, shrimp, and tuna, or apps like crab claws, kimchi fries + big salads!
THE BAR
Top-notch bar program with stunning cocktails, including Frozens for these hot days. The Music Lane Bolero with reposado and prickly pear is an absolute must. Find local beers on tap and a large selection of wine if you wish! If this isn’t on your Austin dinner checklist, it needs to be!
