Better Half Bar has become a staple in Austin known for their big dog-friendly patio and incredible southern-comfort bites. But it’s actually named Better Half in connection with its next-door neighbor, Hold Out Brewing! The owners wanted to create 2 concepts, one for your beer and burger fix and another for coffee, cocktails, and healthier comfort food, thus naming it: Better Half.

BETTER HALF BAR
This swanky coffee spot opened in 2018 right on 5th Street as you are headed towards Lamar! Great location, great coffee, great food, but even better owners! This spot was created by the Wright Bros and Matthew Bolick - the men behind popular The Brew and Brew! In 2016, the group began looking for something new and viewed the space on W 5th…the deal was done and Better Half + Hold Out Brewing was on the horizon!
THE SPACE
The casual airy space featuring light wood details, muted textiles, and trendy accents is unbelievably versatile. In the AM, find friends catching up over a cup of coffee, and people working on their laptops and in the afternoon for happy hour, the line begins growing with groups waiting for cocktails and bites. For seating, there are booths, bar stools, a nook for lounging, and an expansive patio.
FOOD
Breakfast, brunch, lunch, and dinner - where to even begin? This menu spans dishes from chicken biscuits to French toast all the way to cheeseburgers and pork belly entrees! And a big must is the cauliflower bites - just trust us! For drinks, order coffee, alcohol, or alcohol in your coffee, what’s not to love?
HAPPY HOUR
While we mainly stop in for breakfast or brunch, we also love their evening menu including a happy hour with $6 Cheeseburgers and $6 Sangrias! And for your late-night fix, they have a ‘Reverse Happy Hour’ from 9 pm to 10 pm!

They stay open late, I mean really late! They open daily at 7 a.m. and are open until 2 a.m on Thursday through Saturday and even midnight Sunday! Plus, the kitchen is open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m! On weekends, they even have occasional pop-up markets. It’s time to grab your crew and head to Better Half!
